ABSTRACT
CORROSION CURRENT FLUCTUATION ANALYSIS DURING PASSIVE FILM BREAKDOWN AND REPASSIVATION BY CHLORIDE ION.
Corrosion current fluctuation becomes an important method in studying breakdown process and repassivation of passive film on metal and structure material. Metal or material that has passive film on its surface undergo corrosion current fluctuation during breakdown and repassivation of passive film. Corrosion current fluctuation during breakdown and repassivation of passive film in with and without chloride containing solution was studied. It was found that corrosion current fluctuation increased sharply during breakdown of passive film and reduced sharply during repassivation. Corrosion current fluctuation was not detected during passivation time and in the beginning of chloride ion addition. Using corrosion current fluctuation analysis can be predicted weather pitting corrosion occur or not in certain condition and when it occurs. The experiment has been done through electrochemistry method using potentiostat.

Key words : repassivation, passive film, corrosion current fluctuation, pitting corrosion
